Cork is also known as the People's Republic of Cork and is packed with energy and culture. Here you will find hip bars next to fine art centres and old charming pubs that serve beer from local breweries like Beamish and Crawford, and offer live music. Before you leave, head up to Blarney Castle to kiss the magic stone. You will have bad luck if you don't!
Charles Fort. A half hour's drive from Cork city is the picturesque village of Kinsale. After browsing the cosy art galleries and craft shops, check out Charles Fort, a remarkable star-shaped structure built to defend the town from French naval forces.
Sugarloaf Mountain is a prominent cone on the right of the road from Glengarriff to Castletownbere which skirts Bantry Bay and winds along the rocky coastal strip beneath the Caha Mountains. No description could do justice to Glengarriff (the craggy glen) a deep secluded valley encompassed by lofty mountains. Rocks and boulders are flung together in a strange tumultuous confusion and all around is a mass of luxuriant foliage as well as tropical shrubs and flowering plants.
